Psyence BioMed advances U.S. ibogaine manufacturing
Psyence partners with Benuvia to produce pharmaceutical-grade ibogaine in Texas.
Psyence BioMed partners with Benuvia for U.S. ibogaine production
Psyence Biomedical Ltd. (PBM) has announced a strategic partnership with Benuvia Operations to establish the manufacturing of pharmaceutical-grade ibogaine in the United States. The collaboration aims to produce ibogaine active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) under current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) standards, according to a recent report by RTT News.
Manufacturing facility details
Benuvia operates an 83,000-square-foot facility in Texas, which is registered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). This facility holds approximately half of the U.S. aggregate ibogaine production quota, positioning it as a significant player in the emerging field of ibogaine-based therapies.
Psyence's U.S. ibogaine development program
The partnership with Benuvia is a critical component of Psyence's broader strategy to develop ibogaine-based treatments in the United States. Psyence has established the Texas Ibogaine Research Corporation (TIRC) to oversee the manufacturing, licensing, and regulatory processes necessary for advancing their ibogaine program.
Recent strategic moves
Psyence BioMed has been actively expanding its U.S. operations. On September 23, 2026, the company announced a share exchange with Psyence Labs Ltd., coupled with a cash investment of up to $5 million, to support its ibogaine research for opioid use disorder. This move was part of a broader strategy to strengthen its position in the U.S. market.
Why it matters
The establishment of a U.S.-based ibogaine manufacturing facility is a significant step for Psyence BioMed, as it seeks to capitalize on the growing interest in ibogaine as a potential treatment for opioid use disorder and other conditions. By securing a reliable supply of pharmaceutical-grade ibogaine, Psyence is well-positioned to advance clinical research and potential commercialization efforts in the United States.
This development underscores the increasing momentum in the field of psychedelic research, particularly in the context of addressing pressing public health challenges such as the opioid crisis.
